We are looking for a Geography graduate who knows how to work with maps, GIS software, and location data. If you studied Geography or anything related to it — and you have actually used GIS tools on real projects — we want to hear from you. This is a paid, professional role based in Abuja, and we are offering ₦300,000 every month to the right person.
We are not looking for someone who only read about GIS in a textbook. We need someone who has opened ArcGIS or QGIS, created a map, analysed spatial data, and knows what they are doing in the field and at the desk. If that is you, keep reading.
THE JOB AT A GLANCE
- Position: Geography Graduate / GIS Specialist
- Location: Abuja, FCT, Nigeria
- Salary: ₦300,000 per month
- Contact: +234 706 790 0979
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO
We work with location data — maps, satellite images, GPS readings, and spatial analysis. The person we hire will help us collect, organise, and make sense of that data. Below is exactly what we need you to be able to do.
1. USE GIS SOFTWARE — ARCGIS OR QGIS
ArcGIS and QGIS are the two main tools used for GIS work in most organisations. ArcGIS is the one most government offices and big companies use. QGIS does the same job but it is free, and many research organisations and smaller teams prefer it.
We need someone who can:
- Open and manage location-based data on either platform
- Create and edit map layers (called shapefiles)
- Run analysis on that data to answer questions like “where is the best location for this?” or “how far is this from that?”
- Change map projections and coordinate systems when needed
- Export clean, professional maps for reports and presentations
If you know both ArcGIS and QGIS, even better. But being strong in one of them is enough to start.
2. CREATE MAPS AND CARRY OUT SPATIAL ANALYSIS
Map creation is not just drawing lines on a screen. A good map tells a story. We need someone who understands how to design a map so that the person looking at it can immediately understand what it is showing — without needing to be a GIS expert themselves.
That means knowing how to:
- Choose the right colours and symbols for different types of data
- Add proper labels, scale bars, north arrows, and legends
- Design the layout so it looks clean and professional
Spatial analysis means using GIS to answer real-world questions. For example:
- Which areas are within 5km of a water source?
- Where do two types of land use overlap?
- Which locations meet all the conditions we need for a specific project?
We will need you to run these kinds of analyses regularly and present the results clearly.
3. WORK WITH SATELLITE IMAGES (REMOTE SENSING)
Satellite images give us a bird’s-eye view of the earth’s surface. They are used to track changes in land, monitor vegetation, map urban areas, and much more. We need someone who understands how to:
- Download and open satellite images from sources like Sentinel-2 or Landsat (these are free satellite data sources)
- Process and clean those images so they are ready to use
- Identify different land types — farmland, forests, built-up areas, bare land — from the images
- Use tools like NDVI, which is a method used to check how healthy vegetation is in an area
If you have used software like SNAP, ENVI, or Google Earth Engine alongside your GIS tools, please mention that when you contact us.
4. COLLECT GPS DATA IN THE FIELD
Sometimes, the data we need does not exist yet — we have to go out and collect it ourselves. That is where GPS comes in. We need someone who can:
- Use a GPS device or a GPS-enabled phone app to record accurate location points
- Use apps like Survey123, ODK Collect, or Avenza Maps to collect field data
- Organise and clean the data once you are back from the field
- Bring that field data into ArcGIS or QGIS and use it in a project
Field work is an important part of this role. You should be comfortable working outdoors and bringing back quality data.
WHY THIS ROLE IS WORTH YOUR ATTENTION
Most GIS jobs in Nigeria pay between ₦80,000 and ₦150,000 per month at the entry level. We are offering ₦300,000 because we need someone with real skills — not someone still learning on the job. If you have the experience, this is a salary that reflects your value.
Abuja is also one of the best cities in Nigeria to build a career in this field. Government offices, international organisations, NGOs, infrastructure companies — they are all here, and they all use GIS. Coming to work with us puts you right in the middle of that.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
You are a good fit for this role if you:
- Have a degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Remote Sensing, Urban and Regional Planning, or something similar
- Have real experience using ArcGIS or QGIS — not just from class
- Can produce professional-looking maps for reports or presentations
- Have worked with satellite images and understand the basics of remote sensing
- Have collected GPS data in the field at least once — during research, internship, or a real project
- Are based in Abuja or are ready to relocate
Recent graduates with strong final year projects in GIS or remote sensing are welcome to apply. Just make sure you can show us your work.
HOW TO APPLY
Call or send a WhatsApp message to:
📞 +234 706 790 0979
When you reach out, please do not just say “I am interested.” Tell us:
- Your name and your qualification
- Which GIS tools you have used
- One or two projects where you used those tools
- Whether you have a portfolio or samples of your map work
We want to find the right person quickly, so the clearer you are upfront, the faster we can respond. If you know someone who fits this description, please share this with them. The role will not stay open for long.
