JAMB has suspended exam town selection for 2026 UTME candidates in Ekiti State to address structural anomalies and improve access to test centers. This temporary measure aims to reduce travel burdens during the exams scheduled for April 16-25, 2026.
Announcement Details
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced the suspension on February 3, 2026, via spokesperson Fabian Benjamin. Candidates in Ekiti cannot choose exam towns during ongoing registration, but other processes continue uninterrupted.
JAMB detected configuration issues in Ekiti’s exam towns after registration began around late January 2026. The board is restructuring to assign centers closer to candidates’ locations.
Reasons for Suspension
Structural anomalies in Ekiti’s exam town setup prompted urgent fixes to ease transportation on exam day. This follows 2025 UTME complaints where candidates faced long travels to distant centers, even across states like Cross River to Akwa Ibom.
JAMB prioritizes candidate convenience, monitoring operations to prevent repeats of past logistical stresses. Nationwide, 848 CBT centers were accredited after inspections starting December 2025.
Impact on Candidates
Ekiti registrants skip town selection for now; JAMB will auto-assign improved centers post-adjustment, expected soon. Registration fees remain ₦7,200-₦8,700, requiring NIN and profile code at accredited CBT centers.
Candidates elsewhere select towns normally; print slips from mid-April 2026 for exact venues. JAMB’s “No Vision, No Registration” policy ensures real-time monitoring to curb fraud.
